DAK EASED OUT OF bed, leaving Amelia sleeping, and got up to get a drink. Slipping into his robe he left the room. Using the stars that lit the sky and the full moon as light, he made his way to the entertainment room.

Walking over to the bar, he grabbed a bottle of bourbon and poured himself a glass. Then, taking a sip, he drew in a deep breath. He wasn’t sure what the hell had happened in that bedroom but making love with Amelia had changed him. Sex had never, ever, been that good. The last few hours with Amelia had been profound, overpowering and totally, undeniably exceptional.

Sliding onto a stool at the bar, he tried to pull himself together. Amelia didn’t have the experience many women had when it came to sex, yet making love to her had affected him deeply. Every time they’d made love was more pleasurable than the last. It seemed hard to believe that a woman who’d never engaged in oral sex could be the person he’d most enjoyed in bed…ever. It was amazingly true.

Was it because he’d gone two years without a woman? Or because she’d been his fantasy woman for that time? Maybe, but he doubted it. And he was even fairly certain it had nothing to do with her performance in bed—not that he had any complaints.

So what was it about her that made him, even at this very minute, want so badly to go wake her up so he could make love to her again? It was as if now that they’d been intimate, he’d developed a hunger for her that could only be satisfied by sliding inside her body every chance he got. He had never felt such a connection to any woman, nor had he ever wanted to.

And yet, he couldn’t wait to hear her scream his name again, to see her come in his arms while her inner muscles clenched him as if she didn’t ever want to let him go, and drive him right over the edge with her? If they’d been on land, he’d have found a way to put some distance between them, just until he’d figured this out.

That in itself was something he’d never done before—put space between himself and any woman. There had never been one who made a difference.

Amelia did. But she shouldn’t. He couldn’t let her.

Dak rubbed his hand down his face, then finished his drink. He had to make some sense of what he was feeling or he’d be in trouble. He’d invited her to join him, in the hopes that one week would be enough to get her out of his system, and not push her more deeply into it. He needed to get a grip.

“Dak?”

He looked up when he heard his name. The sound of Amelia’s voice was an automatic erection-maker. Standing in the doorway, wearing his shirt, she looked sexier than any woman should. Her body glowed in the light from the stars in the sky. Even the mass of tousled hair didn’t distract from her beauty.
